Message from Chairman
I would like to express our sincere appreciation for your continued patronage of BDO Toyo & Co. My second term as Chairperson started in August 2016. The environment surrounding the audit industry has changed significantly since the corporate accounting scandal that came to light last year. More than ever, the audit industry is facing the need to increase audit quality by conducting audits strictly while demonstrating professional skepticism. Accountants are expected to prevent accounting fraud and ensure the integrity of financial information. Accountants are also expected to help revitalize the financial and capital markets by facilitating the adoption of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and strengthening corporate governance.
It is my responsibility to meet these expectations by establishing an appropriate organizational system as a second-tier audit firm and realizing "resilient and positive Toyo" where young accountants can work confidently with pride and envision their positive future.
Enhancement of quality control system
Maintaining and increasing audit quality are pressing issues requiring the enhancement of professional skepticism, which is a psychological element, in addition to honing technical skills of individual accountants. To do so, rather than relying solely on individuals, it is important for the company to provide organizational backup by enhancing and strengthening the quality control system. We believe that placing the highest priority on quality control and making company-wide efforts to provide audit services sincerely are the basis for earning the trust of society.
Responding to globalization
In an effort to respond to the needs of globally operating clients, we will reinforce our international business from audit and advisory perspectives. In order to prepare for future changes in IFRS, we will continue to focus on facilitating research by the IFRS Advisory Department and supporting clients' IFRS adoption. To do so, we will make the most of BDO International's network and share information primarily on IFRS adoption and accounting audits in each country and region. In addition, we will strive to enhance our client services by sending human resources to BDO offices outside Japan while delivering the latest information.
